Google Market Share Continues To Grow

Google continues to dominate the search market with strong gains.

The recent market share report from Compete, Inc. continues to show solid gains by the search engine giant Google. The February, 2009 report shows that Google has achieved a year-over-year gain of 8.2% to stand at 72.4% of the current search market volume.

Yahoo! trails with 17.8% of the market (down 4.7% from last year - a new market low), while MSN/Live comes in third with 6.3% (down 1.4% from the same time last year).

Beware Microsoft XP Service Pack 3

UPDATE - Microsoft has re-released Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. You can read all about the release on Microsoft's website.. Gven Microsoft's history with this Service Packs, be prudent and backup your system before allowing the patch to be installed. Also, unless you are specificallly effected by this Serivce Pack, just say no to the upgrade at this time. As warned in a previous article, some users are reporting problems with Microsoft's latest upgrade made available for Windows XP. InfoWorld, a publication for computer industry professionals has noted that many users are reporting problems that render their systems unusable.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 Released

UPDATE: We've been running Windows XP Service Pack 3 for several months now without issue. It should be safe to upgrade to SP3 once you have backed up your system.

The wait is over, Microsoft has finally released Service Pack 3 for WIndows XP. Given Microsoft's disclaimer that "Windows XP SP3 will not significantly change the Windows XP experience", I think it might be prudent to let this one air out a little before you install it on your system.
