Is Thesis the Only WordPress Theme You Need?
WordPress and Joomla are now being recognized as the premier content management systems in use on the Internet today. Not surprisingly - both are Open Source programs which means you don't have to pay a licensing fee if you want to use them.

To increase their appeal and to provide you with a unique user interface, both Joomla and WordPress are powered by themes that control the look and feel of the user experience. In this way, the content of your website and the format of your website are kept separate.
While SBOguide.com is built on the Joomla engine, one of the best and most useful of the themes available for WordPress is Chris Pearson's Thesis 1.6. Thesis 1.6 is currently in use on all of our new WordPress sites. I like it for its design flexibility, its built in SEO tools, and the ease with which you can customize it to meet your needs. A great plug-in that compliments Thesis and increases the ease with which you work with Thesis, is Thesis Open Hook. Be sure to download this plug-in once you have Thesis installed.
Thesis 1.7 is currently in development and is expected soon. It's currently in Beta testing and will offer some new and welcome additions. One feature that is scheduled to be included is the ability to export your Thesis settings for import into a new WordPress installation. If you create multiple Wordpress sites, you know that a lot of the time, you select the same features and settings. The ability to clone your work will make you that much more efficient.
Thesis has loads of options that can be set, although I find that I set many of these parameters to the same settings for all of my WordPress websites. So being able to piggyback on the work you've done for one site and easily apply it to another will be a tremendous time saver.
Thesis 1.7 is expected to offer improved SEO settings on a per page basis. Thesis already does a great job allowing you to apply best SEO practices, but 1.7 will make this even sweeter. !.7 will of course be included as a free upgrade to anyone purchasing version 1.6, so there's no need to wait - there's more than enough goodies in the current version to make the purchase a no brainer. |
